Acetylated Distarch Adipate Tapioca Starch (E1422) is a chemically modified manioc starch. It is made by esterifying tapioca starch with acetic anhydride and esterifying/cross-linking with adipic anhydride. Acetyl esters replace hydroxyl groups as a result of acetylation. This modified tapioca starch falls under the category of food additives used in the food industry.
